Juan asked me if I'd be offended that he used the JART fuselage and tail feathers but designed his own wing to go on it. Can you guess how I responded? Of course not! I am always happy to see the JART serve as an inspiration for another builder's creativity. And after all, it was very thoughtful and considerate of Juan to ask how I might feel about using the JART design to help him create his own excellent sloper. English may not he his first language, but considering how ugly my Spanish would be I was grateful that he was willing ...
Trevor has begun a new JART scratch build. He's going for a plug and mold so the first step was to cut the fuse shape out of polyurethane foam and then slather on a few coats of epoxy and microballoons. Then he cut a tail from the same foam and glued it to the fuselage, faring it in with some sort of splooge (maybe a wall filler like spackle?). You can follow his progress over at his RC Universe blog.
Joël in Belgium has just finished this gorgeous new scratch-built JART from plans he got from me back in '08. Two years ago! This model looks very clean. And I really like the vinyl applique bubbles - very creative. Here is Joël's description of the build process: Dear Reed, here is a "made in Belgium" Jart. Please find enclosed some pictures of my model: I was able to build it thanks to the plan that you forwarded to me in 2008. I had a lot of fun to build this very beautiful sailplane. The fuselage is built out of balsa, reinforced with carbon, then covered with glass ...
Michael in Australia started a thread over at the RCGroups slope forum for folks who love their JARTs. Tons of great pictures, especially from the Australia JART gang, and a lot of good links to other build threads. As Michael says in the thread: I have been flying now for 7 months and love it,it is a part of who i am now. From the first moment i laid my eyes on the Jart i had to have one, now that dream is becoming a reality... Thank you Reed for designing this beautiful plane and sharing it with the world Welcome, ...
There is a very strong JART gang in South Africa and everyone is invited to have a look at the SA JART blog. This is just one of many wonderful examples of SA JART creativity – Johann Lochner's Red Bull JART is featured in the 2009 November RCSD: http://www.rcsoaringdigest.com/index.html Johann says: I know, I know... just another Red Bull plane that ”gives you wings”! So what. I enjoyed building it and the stickers were lying around. The process also taught me the art of spraying and masking! I must have sprayed the three colors six times and taken it down as many. The plane weighs in at 1150 ...
